Geothermal Energy | Hatch Geothermal Power Plant Renamed From Thermo
A recent update has been made regarding a Utah geothermal power plant that was previously known as the Thermo power plant.
The Hatch Geothermal Power Plant in Beaver County, Utah has been brought online and has begun to deliver power to the City of Anaheim in California. The company behind the power is Raser Technologies Inc. and the Hatch power plant is expected to deliver 10-11 MW of geothermal power. This will be enough electricity to power up to 9000 homes in Anaheim.
Anaheim has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement with Raser to receive power from the plant ensuring the life of the development.
The Hatch geothermal power plant was constructed in just six months, a task that was made possible by an innovative modular power plant design that was used by Raser. The power plant is able to produce commercial quantities of power from low-temperature resources that were previously considered not hot enough for power production of a commercial nature.
The former name of the Hatch power plant was the Thermo power plant. The plant has been renamed after Utah Senator Orrin Hatch.
Independent engineers believe the Hatch plant sits on geothermal resources that may have the potential of 230MW.
