A proposal to install and operate a wind farm in Haiyang City in Shandong Province, China by Shandong Haiyang Qiuershan Wind Power project has been signed. This project is being promoted by the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) as part of the Kyoto Protocol to assist the promotion of sustainable development in developing nations. The agreement was signed on 20 April, 2007.

The Haiyang Wind Power project will sell the wind power generated electricity to the North China Power Grid (NCPG). The project will consists of 20 wind turbines with a capacity of 750kW for a total capacity of 15 MW. This will give the project the capability of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by around 30,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.

The project owner plans to install and operate additional wind farms near the coast line. Haiyang Qiuershan Wind project will provide invaluable local experience with the development and operation of wind power on a commercial scale. It is also expected that the project will contribute to local employment during the construction and operation phases of the wind farm.

The wind farm is expected to be operational early in 2008.
