After the usual environmental and social issues were dealt with, construction of the Altona Wind Park has commenced in New York. The access roads and substation are in the process of being built with a completion date of this stage in late June, shortly following that will come the erection of the first wind turbine.

Noble Environmental Power are the developers of the project which will consist of 68 wind turbines giving the project a maximum capacity of 102MW. The turbines are expected to begin being erected on June 16 and, according to Noble construction will be completed by September 10. The first turbine will then be brought online by 18 September.

Around 30 landowners have given approval to have the wind turbines sited on their property and according to Altona Town Supervisor Larry Ross the local residents are looking forward to the project and the tax breaks brought on by the renewable energy.

The electricity produced from the Altona Wind Park will be commissioned by the New York State Power Authority.
