Wind Power | Blue Sky Green Field Wind Project
The largest wind power project in the state of Wisconsin is in the process of being constructed near the towns of Calumet and Marshfield in Fond du Lac County. Blue Sky Green Field will be a 145 MW capacity wind power plant for Wisconsin power utility We Energies. We Energies has selected Alliant Energy Windconnect as the contractor to construct the wind farm. The project has been in the planning and development stage for four years.
Blue Sky Green Field will consist of 88 Vestas wind turbines each with a capacity of 1.65 MW giving the project its 145MW, enough to supply power to 36,000 homes per year.
Estimated total cost of the project could run to around $300 million and construction is expected to be completed during summer 2008. The Blue Sky Green Field wind project will see the wind turbines erected on a 10,600 acre project area with each turbine measuring 262 feet from the ground to the hub.
The state of Wisconsin has introduced a law that all state utilities must provide at least 10% of their electricity from renewable sources by 2015.
Updated : We Energies announced that the Blue Sky Green Field Wind Project was placed into commercial production on Monday, 19 May 2008. In the announcement they stated that they expected to generate more than 328 million emission-free kilowatt hours a year.
