Wind Power | Greenknowes Wind Farm
Construction is currently underway at the Greenknowes Wind Farm a wind power project that is being undertaken by ScottishPower Renewables. The Greenknowes Wind Farm will comprise 18 wind turbines and will havea maximum electricity production capacity of 27MW when it is in commercial production. This will provide electricty to power up to 15,000 homes.
The wind power project is sited in Perthshire, approximately 5km south of Auchterarder in Scotland. Construction on the wind farm began in May 2007 and electricity is expected to begin being produced in the summer of 2008.
The first of the 18 wind turbines has just been completed and Keith Anderson, ScottishPower Renewables Director, said: “The Scottish Government has set considerable renewable energy targets and we are delighted to be working in Perth and Kinross in pursuit of these goals.
“Greenknowes Windfarm is an important element of our wind development programme, and is a fantastic example of utilising Scotland’s abundant wind resources for environmental benefit.”
