Wind Power | McAdoo Wind Farm
Wind power developer Invenergy Wind LLC is in the process of bringing the McAdoo Wind Farm on-line in Dickens County east of Lubbock, Texas. The wind farm will produce 150MW of power and will be made up of 100 x 1.5MW wind turbines.
Bolstering the project with much needed funding, GE Energy Financial Services have thrown their considerable weight, not to mention funds, into the wind farm creating another entry into the company’s already impressive portfolio of investments. In fact GE Energy Financial Services now holds equity in 72 wind farms worldwide. The company has raised its renewable energy investment goal to $6 billion by 2010.
Upon the project’s completion, the turbines will send power through a 27-mile transmission line to a substation in Spur. After the electricity reaches the Spur station it will be routed into the state’s electricity grid.
The McAdoo Wind Farm will make a significant contribution to reducing carbon emissions, effectively avoiding around 315,000 metric tons of greenhouse gases annually and will be the equivalent of taking around 58,000 cars off the road each year.
The state of Texas has a mandate to achieve 5,880 MW of renewable energy capacity by 2015 and the McAdoo Wind Farm is another positive step towards achieving that goal. The project is expected to be completed during the third quarter of 2008.
