Wind Power | Pottawattamie County
It’s very early days for this wind energy project, but MidAmerican Energy has proposed to build a wind farm in Pottawattamie County, Iowa. The wind farm will consist of 64 wind turbines and will havea maximum capacity of up to 96 MW of electricity.
At this point MidAmerican Energy’s proposal is about to go before the Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors for a hearing into the question of tax incentives for the project. So far there has been no public opposition to the project.
The land being considered for the site of the project will be leased from landowners. These landowners will receive an annual per-turbine payment and MidAmerican is hoping that they will have to pay no property taxes on the equipment for the first year and then only 5% of the assessed value for the second year. Each year the tax amount would be raised until it reaches 30%, at which point it would be fixed.
