Wind Power | Yaloak Wind Farm
The proposed Yaloak Wind Farm has been in the planning and information gathering stage since 2005. Pacific Hydro has selected the site on private farming land near Ballan in western Victoria about an hour’s drive from Melbourne.
The first proposal has already been rejected by Victorian Planning Minister Rob Hulls in 2005 and so Pacific Hydro are now collecting further environmental data to submit a second proposal.
The details of the proposed wind farm: Pacific Hydro hopes to install 70 wind turbines which will produce a maximum capacity of 115.5MW which would generate enough electricity to power up to 40,000 homes.
The project was originally budgeted to cost $150 million and with a location that provides consistently strong winds, a close connection to the National Electricity Grid and good access for construction crews, the prospects look promising for the project to be given the green light in the future.
