Indiana’s first commercial wind power station has been brought online this month. The 130MW capacity wind farm lies 90 miles northwest of Indianapolis near the Illinois state line.
The Benton County Wind Farm comprises 87 wind turbines and generates enough power to suppply 43,000 homes. The project is the first in a planned construction project that will see 6 wind farms in operation generating a combined 3,000MW.
Under a 20 year purchase agrement the electricity produced by the wind farm is being bought by Duke Energy. It is intended that there will be another 50 wind turbines added to the project.
