Towards the end of 2012 NextEra Energy Resources LLC commissioned its first wind farm to be located in the state of Michigan which is known as the Tuscola Bay Wind Project. Now, in 2013, the company is eyeing off the possibility of expanding on its first project by developing the Tuscola Bay II Wind Energy project.
The proposal that has been put forward by NextEra is for a 59 turbine extension to be constructed. The early stages are still being put through the planning stage and the permitting process has started. The project will add a further 100MW which will be supplied by GE 1.7-100 wind turbines.
NextEra has been submitting proposals as they try to come up with a development that will meet all of the government requirements to be accepted. It is expected that the project is going to cost around $250 million and that the extended section will generate enough power for 30,000 homes. it is hoped that the second phase of the project will be completed by 2014.
This proposed new project will add to the existing 120MW wind farm that was commissioned in 2012. This first phase consists of 75 GE 1.6MW wind turbines and covers a 9,000-acre site in the counties of Tuscola Bay and Saginaw.
